Quick answers
Can I get income protection as a roofer or scaffolder?
Many insurers cover manual trades. Some charge more or have different terms for higher-risk jobs, which is exactly why it helps to talk to an adviser who knows trades.
Is this the same as life insurance?
No. Income protection pays you a monthly income if illness or injury stops you working, after a waiting period you choose. Life insurance pays a lump sum if you die. Your adviser can talk you through both.
Will lots of companies call me?
No. One firm only. We'll text you who your adviser is before we pass on your details.
Who will call me?
One FCA-authorised protection adviser. We'll text you their name and number first, and they'll only call once you've replied YES.
Does it cost anything?
It's free to you. The adviser we introduce you to may pay us a fee.
Is Vow an insurer?
No. We introduce you to one FCA-authorised adviser, who talks you through your options and arranges cover with an insurer if you decide to go ahead.
What's your trade?
So we match you with an adviser who knows your trade.
If an accident stopped you from working, could you stay afloat for 6 months?
Income protection could cover you and the family.
If you couldn't work, what monthly salary would keep you safe or keep you going?
Rough is fine.
Putting your answers together…
How income protection works
-
1
You pick a waiting period
The longer you can wait before it pays, the less it usually costs. You said you could stay afloat for 6 months, so a longer waiting period could keep the cost down. You said you couldn't stay afloat for 6 months, so a shorter waiting period may matter to you.You weren't sure you could stay afloat for 6 months. Your adviser can help you pick the right waiting period.
-
2
If illness or injury stops you working, it pays you a monthly income after that.
-
3
It keeps paying until you're back on the tools or the policy ends.
Most claims get paid: mutual insurers paid 92.6% of new income protection claims (AFM, 2025).
Have you smoked, vaped or used any nicotine products in the last 12 months?
This includes e-cigarettes, vapes, patches and gum. Getting it right keeps your cover valid.
When's best for a quick call?
We know you're on the tools. Your adviser will call once, when it suits you.

Thanks for checking. Vow only works with people living in the UK.
The advisers we introduce arrange cover for UK residents, so we can't help this time. A regulated adviser where you live is the right person to talk to.
Thanks for stopping by. Vow can help once you're 18.
Insurance in the UK is arranged for adults, so we can't introduce you to an adviser just yet. Nothing has been passed to an adviser.
